Stamford Dental Implants: Complete Smile Restoration

Stamford Dental Implants: An Overview

Needing Stamford dental implants is not something that is faced by those with less than admirable standards of oral hygiene during the course of their lifetime! It only takes one single unfortunate event for a tooth or multiple teeth to become irreparably cracked, broken down or lost. In fact, teeth can need replacing due to a whole host of factors: accidental trauma to the face, tooth decay, periodontal disease, chronic illness such as Diabetes and even your genetic heritage can cause you to lose single or multiple teeth. Stamford dental implants are sought after by people of all ages; even those that maintain meticulous oral hygiene. So, what exactly are dental implants and how can they help to completely restore the beauty of your smile?

Stamford Dental Implants: What are They?

Dental implants are essentially biomaterials used to replace single or multiple missing teeth. They consist of a titanium metal base screw, which is inserted into the bone of the jaw at the site/s of the missing tooth/teeth, and an artificial crown fabricated to look, work and feel just like a healthy natural tooth. The choice of titanium as the metal from which the base screw is made is an interesting one and originates from innovative work done in the 1950’s by Swedish professor, Per-Ingvar Brånemark. Together with his clinical research team, Professor Brånemark found that titanium metal displayed the unique property of being able to form a strong biological bond with bone tissue, a process termed ‘osseointegration’. In addition to this, titanium metal is incredibly strong and non-corrosive, making it a perfect candidate for assuming the role of an artificial tooth root.

The procedure involved in inserting Stamford dental implants is fairly simple. The gingival sulcus or tooth socket is cleared of the old failing, unstable or broken down tooth root and the titanium screw inserted in its place. Subsequently, the artificial crown is affixed to the abutment of the base implant. The results are virtually indistinguishable from any normal healthy tooth, thus completely restoring the smile to its original evenness and aesthetics.

Stamford Dental Implants: Challenges

Stamford dental implants are the comprehensive solution to tooth loss and with a 98% success rate, it is no wonder why tens of thousands of people undergo treatment at of MALO CLINICS every year. However, there are certain cases that do present more of a challenge than others and this usually comes down to the stage of periodontal (gum) disease. Chronic and acute bacterial infection of the gums surrounding and supporting the teeth can migrate down into the gingival sulcus and cause bone loss in the jaw. Without sufficient bone volume, the titanium screw of the Stamford dental implants will not be able to properly osseointegrate, thus rendering the entire tooth replacement structure unstable. In these cases, bone grafting is frequently recommended.

Stamford Dental Implants: A Final Note

In spite of the above-mentioned challenge, the 98% success rate speaks very much for itself. Stamford dental implants are the comprehensive solution to single and multiple missing teeth, which have become displaced through one of a myriad of causes.
